Warm-Up Match Between USA and Bangladesh Cancelled Due to Severe Weather
TOI Sports Desk – 3 minutes
NEW DELHI: The T20 World Cup warm-up match between USA and Bangladesh in Dallas was cancelled on Tuesday due to severe weather conditions. Heavy rain and potential flood risks led both teams to remain at their hotels.
“This is to confirm that the warm-up match between Bangladesh and the USA at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas today has been cancelled due to the conditions of the facilities following the adverse weather that has affected the area,” said Rabeed Iman, Bangladesh’s team manager, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo at 8:54 am local time.
Weather Forces Teams Indoors
The match was crucial for both teams as they prepare for the T20 World Cup, scheduled to start on June 1 in the USA and the West Indies. The co-hosts, USA, are in Group A and will kick off their campaign against Canada on June 1 at the same Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas. Bangladesh, placed in Group D, will begin their tournament against Sri Lanka on June 7, also in Dallas.
Understanding the pitch conditions was essential for both teams, especially since this was their first warm-up game. The weather disruption was a significant setback in their preparations.
Previous Encounters
Before the cancelled warm-up game, USA and Bangladesh faced off in a three-match T20I series. The USA emerged victorious with a 2-1 series win, marking their first win against a full member ICC side. Key players for the USA included Harmeet Singh, Ali Khan, and Corey Anderson, whose performances were instrumental in the team’s success just ahead of the World Cup.

Impact on World Cup Preparations
The weather conditions disrupting the warm-up match are a reminder of the challenges teams can face in outdoor sports. With both USA and Bangladesh looking to make strong starts in the T20 World Cup, the cancelled game could affect their readiness. However, the previous series win by the USA has boosted their confidence as they head into the tournament.
In summary, the inclement weather in Dallas forced the cancellation of the USA and Bangladesh warm-up match, impacting their preparations for the T20 World Cup. Both teams will now focus on their upcoming fixtures, hoping for better conditions to aid their campaigns.
