Saudi Summer Enrichment Programs Ignite Academic Excellence

The King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity, known as “Mawhiba,” has inaugurated its 2024 summer enrichment initiatives, according to the Saudi Press Agency. These initiatives, launched today, encompass a variety of programs designed to enhance scientific and personal skills among students.

Diverse Programs Across Multiple Cities

Mawhiba’s summer programs include the Academic Enrichment Program, Research Enrichment Program, Universal Enrichment Program, and Ambassadors Program. These will be conducted across more than 100 sessions in 16 cities, catering to approximately 13,000 students, including 450 from Arab countries like Syria, Jordan, Palestine, the UAE, Bahrain, Tunisia, Algeria, Iraq, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Libya, Morocco, Mauritania, Yemen, Egypt, and South Africa.

The duration of these programs varies, with some running for three weeks, while others extend up to six weeks. The focus is on providing intensive scientific enrichment in research, scientific, and technical fields. Students will also engage in various activities and field trips, enhancing their learning experiences.

A Robust Participation

A total of 12,219 students are participating in the academic enrichment program, spread across 68 programs in 16 cities. Additionally, the universal enrichment program has enrolled 480 students, and the research enrichment program involves 485 students across 14 distinct programs. The ambassadors program, conducted in the US, Great Britain, and Ireland, includes 128 students in 24 programs.

Amal Al-Hazzaa, secretary-general of Mawhiba, emphasized that these programs, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Saudi universities, and research centers, aim to provide advanced scientific knowledge and experiences. “These programs aim to enhance students’ abilities and skills, offering them tailored support for their development and refinement,” she said.

Training by International Experts

Students are trained by leading international experts in gifted education, which helps them acquire advanced academic knowledge and scientific skills across specialized enrichment units. Khaled Al-Sharif, director-general of Mawhiba’s Center of Excellence, highlighted that these enrichment programs expand students’ mental and cognitive horizons, assist them in identifying and exploring their scientific interests, and help them set future goals. The programs also focus on developing personal and social skills while instilling 21st-century competencies.

The enriching environment provided by these programs allows students to interact with peers of the same age group, engage in supervised scientific activities, and display their creative abilities, making the most of their summer vacation.

Cutting-Edge Research Fields

The programs cover a wide range of research fields, including nanotechnology, materials science, environmental sensors, renewable energy, lithium battery engineering, carbon dioxide conversion, hydrogen production, water purification from environmental pollutants, and converting waste into economically viable materials. Students gain expertise in conducting research experiments, analyzing data, drawing conclusions, writing scientific reports, and developing original research ideas and proposals.

These initiatives are overseen by a team of experts, including faculty members, teachers, scientists, and distinguished specialists, ensuring that students receive top-notch guidance and support.
