ToggleIndia to Face Bangladesh in T20 World Cup Warm-Up in the USA
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced that India will play a warm-up match against Bangladesh on June 1, ahead of the T20 World Cup. This match, whose venue is yet to be finalized, will be held in the USA. Captained by Rohit Sharma, India, the first champions of the Men’s T20 World Cup in 2007, are gearing up for another victorious campaign in the tournament, which is co-hosted by the West Indies and the USA.
Warm-Up Matches Across Multiple Venues
The warm-up fixtures, scheduled from May 27 to June 1, will be hosted at various locations in the USA and Trinidad and Tobago. Some notable venues include the Grand Prairie Cricket Stadium in Texas, Broward County Stadium in Florida, and Queen’s Park Oval and Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad and Tobago. A total of 17 teams will participate in these matches, including South Africa, which will play an intra-squad match on June 29 in Florida.

These warm-up games, featuring 20 overs per side, will not have international T20 status. This allows teams to experiment with their entire 15-player squad. Teams now have the option to play up to two warm-up matches, depending on their arrival time for the main event. Fans can attend the warm-up match between the West Indies and Australia on May 30 at Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad and Tobago.
Tickets for these fixtures are available from the official ticketing website or at designated box offices starting from May 16. The 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup will officially commence on June 1 with a match between co-hosts USA and Canada.
Historic Hosting and Tournament Format
This T20 World Cup marks a historic occasion as it is the first time the USA will host an ICC tournament. Matches will be played across six venues in the West Indies and three stadiums in the USA, including iconic cricket grounds like Kensington Oval in Barbados and Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad.
The tournament will begin with 20 teams divided into four groups of five for the initial round. The top two teams from each group will advance to the Super Eight stage, where they will be further divided into two groups of four. Teams maintaining their seeding from the first round will compete in the Super Eight, provided they qualify.
The top two teams from each group in the Super Eight will move on to the semifinals, which are scheduled to be held in Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago on June 26 and 27, respectively. The final match is set to take place in Barbados on June 29.
